Picton Tours from the Marlborough Sounds
Staying in Picton on the Marlborough Sounds then why not take one of the Picton tours. Picton is located on the Queen Charlotte sound in the Marlborough Sounds. Picton is the gateway to the South Island of New Zealand. Many travelers choose to stay in Picton either immediately before or after taking the ferry to the North Island.
Picton is located about 1/2 hour north of Blenheim which is the main town of the Marlborough Wine Region. It is still possible to take one of the Picton tours taking in the Marlborough wineries and Na Clachan Wine Tours will collect you from your accommodation. The Marlborough Sounds
The Marlborough Sounds, a collection of old sunken river beds with 150km of coastline. It consists of 3 main Sounds, Queen Charlotte, Pelorus and Keneperu. The sounds offer beautiful views of blue water with forestry rising from the waters edge.
Business
Many diverse businesses operate in the region. Seafood is farmed in the forms of Pacific Salmon and the famous green lip mussels thus giving you the opportunity to try the local produce. Havelock on the Pelorus Sound is the centre for the green lip mussel processing. Many companies offer Picton tours with boat trips on the sounds from either Picton or Havelock. To get a little closer to nature why not take a kayaking tour.
Walking
The Marlborough Sounds offers many different walking tracks. The Queen Charlotte track is the most famous of all the walking tracks. Therefore you can choose to walk a part of the track on a day trip or walk the whole length of the track over a number of days. Above all there are many options are available for Picton Tours.
We had a day off running Picton tours over the last weekend and decided to go for a walk and take in some of the stunning views from near Picton. I have included some photographs below to hopefully show the beauty of the area and hence excite you to visit the region.
